Oh this is a good tool! A smashing birthday present from the mother-in-law.

You'd think that it would be limited in its application, but I've been using it all over the place. In fact, I haven't used it to dig a hole for a post yet (that will be next month's job), but I have dug a number of holes to put plants in. The beauty is that it doesn't mess up the turf around the hole so you get a better looking job done.

The digger is made of very solid materials and is well put together. It is quite heavy, but beautifully weighted to get the job done. I have dug a practice hole right down to the handles with minimal effort. For smaller holes of about 1' deep, it is just so much tidier than using a spade. The reduction in nagging I've had from leaving the lawn tidy after putting in a few shrubs has been a revelation. I'm still thinking of digging another practice hole to put the mother-in-law should the opportunity arise.
