The only perfect bike carrier is a van, I haven't got one and bought a classic "hanging" style bike rack. I hated it, loading the bikes was a challenge, with peddles going through the spokes of the bike next door, and although it was quick to fit it never felt secure so I bought the Mont Blanc S3.
It clears the lights and reg plate of my Honda and fits very tightly to the rear boot and because the bikes "stand" they load quickly and without fouling each other. This is a really well engineered product and on a recent trip to the continent it carried the bikes securely on and off ferries almost without a hitch. However take time to get used to fitting it, I rushed it after a long ride and the rubber feet that touch the rear window were reversed. This gave about 5mm of extra movement and I nearly lost the rack on a speed bump! If fitted correctly it really is like a glove but it has to be perfect- so take your time. It is a heavy rack that fits the vehicle using arms sold...

Very good rack
Very good rack, with one exception, the plastic washers under the handles to secure the rack can snap quite easily (you do need to use a bit of force to break them, as I found out, you just need to be careful not to over tighten the handles).

However, that said, Mont Blanc customer service was fantastic. Found a part by part document on the web site, emailed their customer services asking how to purchase spare parts, they sent 2 spares out free of charge.
