The Reelight SL620 LED's flash while your wheels are in motion, crucially they continue to flash for up to 2 minutes after you have stopped thanks to the built-in capacitor which stores current while you are cycling. The SL620 LED light mounts on the rear plate of the pannier rack, with the remote sensor on the seat stays to connect with the wheel magnet. The high quality light diodes and the powerful neodynium magnets guarantee quality and durability. With Reelight, you always have lights on your bike day and night! The permanently fitted magnet lights flash when the wheels rotate and work without the need for batteries. When pedalling your bike, friction free Reelight bike lights create their own energy by magnetic induction from the wheel mounted neodymium magnets, powering high efficiency flashing LEDs.The lights are based on the electrodynamic induction principle. Electric current is then produced when the magnets pass the light, which incorporates a spool of copper wire. The light...

Not very bright
I am quite disappointed with this light. I was very excited at the thought that I would never get caught out without lights again, but the light is not very bright so I always carry my battery LEDs anyway or feel invisible. The lights are powered by 2 magnets on the spokes passing close to the generator on the frame, so the wheel has to be really straight to enable the closest distance between them. My wheel is apparently not perfectly straight so the distance has to be greater than is ideal. I am going to move the fittings closer to the axle to see if that helps (on the theory that there will be less wobble at the centre??).

I can really feel the pull of the magnets when I am wheeling the bike and when I start off - it feels like a rubbing brakepad though nothing is making contact. However it is OK once rolling - though I am a slow cyclist anyway.

It is helpful that the lights continue to flash when the bike stops.

The lights were a bit fiddly to put...

Brighter than I expected
I am a big fan of reelight because I hate changing batteries on my bike lamps. The only problem with old reeligh models was that they light was mounted near the wheel pinion, thus reducing visibility. This new system has the light separated from the generator/accumulator part, so the led can be placed on the rack, just like any normal light.
The installation is easy and requires one screw driver and a pair of scissors to shorten the rubber band between the accumulator and the metal frame.
Once installed it is basically maintainance-free: I have had mine on for more than six months and only adjusted the distance between coil and magnet once. This is easily done and requires no tools.

After a few minutes of normal pedaling the capacitor will hold enough charge to keep the led blinking even when stopped.
I did not notice the increase in the pedal resistance but this is probably due to the fact that my bike is fairly heavy to start with.
