Great little bright light
I've recently gotten back into cycling again, timed perfectly for the darker Autumn/Winter/Spring months. As a result I needed a good bike light. Not a little piddly white thing that does nothing to illuminate your path and barely makes itself known to oncoming traffic, but a light that shows you the path whilst announcing "HERE I AM" to anything coming your way.

My solution was the Nano-shot. The price was very reasonable as I think the line has been updated now, dropping the original down in value whilst the new models fetch a premium.

The handlebar attachment is a breeze to fit and should fit pretty much any shape and size handlebars. Once on, it's very good for keeping it's position and not falling around. The quick release for the torch is also very smooth, which is a bonus.

The torch has 3 modes, BRIGHT, slightly less bright, and epilepsy inducing flash-mode. Run time is only 1.5 hours for the brightest mode, but if you're commuting like I do,...

Superb bright light for the rural cyclist
I have been cycling to a rural train station for around 10 years now, and this is by far the brightest light I have had.

It is small, and clips and unclips easily from the bike - so is very convenient for commuters.

What I especially like about the light are the re-chargebale battery's, which can be charged using a USB connection - very convenient and no messing around taking the light apart to remove the batteries.

This is an amazing product. Not overpriced as the other (hugely expensive) LED lights on the market, yet it delivers 1600 lumens that is more than you need in most situations. You will know the status of your pack as there is a colour led indicator. It comes in a budget cardboard box rather than any profesionally cool looking plastic case (which I do not mind at all) that may partially explain the very reasonable price. I fitted it on my helmet and it sits their nicely (put it towards the front, but not completely to maintain good balance). The quality of the lamp and accessories is impeccable , in spite of the low price. The lamp itself looks sturdy and the metal finish is of high quality. It is supposed to be waterprooof (yet to be fully tested!). Beware, as the body of the lamp will get hot when used on the max output, however, the radiator-look...

Very fine light for the money
Very good quality of the product, especially considering the cost (comparing to the comparable ones from other manufacturers).
Light is extremely bright. Normally I'm using lowest or the 50% setting. Higher settings are used only on very difficult terrain or just for the fun of them ;).
Amazingly the battery life is quite good when the light is used on the lower end of power scale.
Build is sturdy and quite elegant. Mounts are solid, o-rings and velcro straps are working great.

For now there are only three small problems with the light on everyday use:

1. The buttons on the light (power up/down) are a bit difficult to use when driving, especially when using glove. The o-ring is a bit flexible, which is good, but it makes changing power level a bit tricky.

2. When connected to the battery, the signaling diode on the back of the light is always on. I've not found any measurable impact of this on the battery life, the power of this diode...

Better than the hope r4
Awesome light , very bright . I have owned it for 3 weeks and have not felt the need to use more than 50% power . The only criticism is that the velcro stap that you attatch the battery to the frame with has a week plastic D ring on it that you use to double back the velcro strap to attach it . THIS LIGHT IS AS GOOD AS MY OLD HOPE R4 BUT WITHOUT THE COST .

I wish I'd bought mine at the price currently offered by Amazon. Actually, I wish I'd bought both of mine at that price.

Anyway, on to the useful stuff.

It's not as large and heavy as you'd think - it looks like one of those bar-mounted lights you'd find in Halfords which might get you noticed in traffic, but it's so much more than that. I'd be tempted to say it could be used for offroading, but I have a road bike with 23mm slick tyres so have never taken it offroad!

Weighing in at 144g, it won't weigh you down much and the solid tool-free clamp only takes up about 20mm of bar space. It fits oversized (31.8mm) roadie bars as well as the slimmer MTB ones. The self-contained light unit clips in easily to the mount and stays fixed in place as long as you need it.

On full power it sends 500 lumens of light down the road for about 100 minutes. About 30 mins before the end of its discharge cycle (at the currently selected output level) the solid...

Great light that allows you to see and be seen
This light isn't cheap but it's worth the spend.
On full power it's bright enough to light the road ahead even when there's no streetlights. And there's certainly no danger of you not being seen!
Full power lasts up to a couple of hours on a full charge. However the flashing functions on full power last longer and there's also two dimmer settings that are still better than most other lights.
Highly recommended.

Bright, convenient
The Mako would double quite effectively as a rechargeable pocket torch. Bought the Mk7. It's about the width of my hand, light (80 odd grams) and a tad on the pricey side. However, you soon forget the outlay. 400 lumens from something so small and light - fantastic. It comes well packaged, the box is well designed and comprehensive. You get the light, a lanyard and Exposure's bespoke helmet fitting system, which is quite superb - Attach the lanyard to your lid, connect it to your light and then `snap' the light into the fitting. Seconds to sort and so easy to adjust, even on the fly. I've had a few lid torches and this one burns them all off as it's light and so easy (easy to take off for when you've got that puncture in the middle of the local wood). The build quality and feel is marvellous. The milled finish is something else.

It has 8 program settings, in which there are sub settings for brightness. It even has a program for Morse! SOS . . . / - - - / . . .

fantastic torch
i owned the 2009 modal of this torch but lost it :( always loved it nothing else compared maglights dont hold a candle to this (excuse the pun) the batter lasts a very long time my olderone went through the washing machine and still worked finer after, this newer one seems a lot more scratch resistant than the older model as i keep it on a rop with me keys and knife and it hasnt scratched atall. anyway lots not make this an essay purley the best torch i have ever owned or seen working perfect for riding, late night walking camping or anything in the dark :P

Brilliant light
Have had this light for 4 months and have put it through its paces.

I now commute to work through some completely unlit and wooded areas. This light throws its beam further than you need at a decent speed, it diverts enough light around you to see hard left and right. The beam is very bright on full power. I like the way you can easily move the light around on the handle bar, either to keep the light out of on comers eyes or if the terrain changes and you need to really focus on the ground immediately in front.

The common complaint for this model is the battery life, I agree this is something to be improved however it really isn't a problem. On full power you get over 2hrs which for me would be nearly two days worth of use but... The controls are so easy to change the power when in a street lit area. Don't expect to use rechargeables...
A few members of a local cycling group I belong to had highly recommended this light so, being sick and tired of cyclists coming at me in the opposite direction telling me my current lights were too bright, I bought it... after convincing myself that the whopping price tag could be justified (it can't). First thing to note was that straight out of the packet the clear front lense was already slightly scratched (and I'd paid how much?). Second thing was that the packaging makes numerous references to the lamp running successfully on rechargeable batteries. Excellent. I inserted some freshly charged batteries and set off to work (I have cycled to work for 10 years and have a good, reliable bank of high quality, heavy duty rechargeables). On cycling home in the dark I was quite impressed with the light output...to begin with. After literally about 4 minutes of cycling with the light on it's high setting it turned itself to low mode and indicated the batteries were running low...

Very good light with a few caveats
The positive points:
The Ixon is a very good front light. The beam is plenty bright enough, even at longer distances. The Low setting is perfect for illuminated roads (visibility and filling in the dark spots between streetlights), and the Bright setting is just what it says: Bright, and plenty so, even on pitch black terrain more than adequate. Also, the quick release clamp on the handlebar mount allows to quickly aim the light a little higher or lower while cycling, which is very handy. A further positive is that it uses standard AA batteries, so if you need longer endurance (or for security - see the first negative point below), you can easily carry a spare set.

There are two lesser points however:
(1) During my first test ride on pitch black and very rough terrain, the light came off the handlebar mount, went flying through the air, and on impact with the ground the battery compartment opened, scattering the four batteries all over the picth dark terrain. Not...
