This is my third SLR Flow Kit Carbonio Saddle. I'm not going to waste a lot of time extolling the virtues of this saddle. But it wouldn't be a smart move to keep buying one if it wasn't any good? I've also used the Specialized Romin which is also another great saddle.

The bottom line (sorry about that) is it simply comes down to the width of your sit-bones, your type of riding and your style of riding. Check out a friends saddle or borrow one, as a quick trip around the block is no indicator of whether a saddle is going to work for you or not. This one does!

I shoulda known...
Been riding B17's for years, and always found them a little wanting in the comfort department. Finally I splurged on a Swift, and boy is this better, no more pressure on the thighs from those sharp corners, and splaying of the sides. As Brooks themselves describe the saddle; "The handsome Swift was the youngest gentleman's racing saddle in the Brooks range ..." I should known from the start this was for me! Don't be cheap and a victim of false economy, spend the extra dough on this rather than a B17!

So far so good
Havent ridden famous break in distance of 500 miles (?) yet, but so far so good. Mine is different from this model only in that I went for the honey coloured one. Be careful you dont buy the model marked "S", for short, thats the ladies version - unless you are a lady. You will also need to by the Brooks dubbin that softens the leather. I would also strongly suggest buying the saddle cover at the same time - useful for keeping dust off when storing, the rain off when parked in the wet, and for avoiding scuffing when turning the bike upside down (I think it would badly scuff quickly without it).

The only slight problem I noticed so far is that, being all shiney at first I suppose, you are less fixed on the seat and so at the moment it is a little more sore from rubbing than the seat the bike came with. But what I also noticed was that the springs do a great job at absorbing all those horrible jars from pothole - no longer do I yelp and have to hold myself out of te saddle...

Mixed view and some creaking - try before you buy.
I need a saddle for an upcoming 1200 mile ride and so I thought I would try the legendary Brooks leather saddle experience for myself. After web based research I chose this model - the B67.

Things to note : Firstly - its heavy - 850g. Secondly its very wide - 203mm. Both of these are in the spec sheet so are not a surprise but IMO I should have bought the unsprung B17 version - lighter and narrower.

My mistake was that I went for the significantly more 'upright' posture saddle because on my bike (Specialized Tricross Comp) the bars are higher than the saddle. Given that - and the guards/rack/bar bag I'm using for the tour - I erred on the cruisier side for the saddle.

For me though the width is too much - it tends to push me forwards as I pedal, onto the nose of the saddle. I can reduce that effect by tilting the saddle up but that introduces some 'local' pressure(!) that I'd prefer to avoid.

I only have about 150 miles on the saddle so far...

Fantastic saddle! It definitely needs to be set up properly to gain the full comfort, so if you're finding it uncomfortable I would advise tweaking its adjustment or taking it to someone who is more experienced to do it for you. With mine properly fitted I rode 40 miles yesterday and didn't feel even a hint of numbness or soreness, and it isn't even broken in yet! Not for weight weenies, but definitely for those who value comfort and dislike wider saddles like the B17 as I do.

Very impressive
I bought this as a bit of an entry level upgrade to the quite uncomfortable saddle that came with my Cube Agree. This is far better over long distances and while it feels quite firm, it becomes pretty much unnoticeable after 10 minutes. It's not the lightest ever but the same as the one it replaced and you'll pay at least double to save a worthwhile amount of weight. It does have quite an aggressive downward slope and I'd recommend you position it carefully because I felt as if I was falling onto the bars after first installing it at what I thought was a reasonable angle. Having tilted it back a few degrees, I'm very happy with it.

Very good seat
It is a very good seat. I was using during seven days, 7 hours a day and while my back could not avoid the pain of be in a bike seat during that much time, it was not as hard as I guessed before start.

The gel is well positioned and the seat is very deformable while maintain the correct shape. It is not the lightest which you can buy but the price, weight and quality is very well balanced compared with other in the catalog. Good seat, very confortable and adequate for long distances.

Great Saddle!

Arm chair cycling
I agree with the initial saddle hardness issues with the B17.My initial ride on a B17 nearly left me a soprano after I cycled in to a dip in the road.But I cured this hardness problem in a slightly unorthodox way. I covered the saddle with a cloth to avoid marking it and tenderized it like a piece of steak for about 10 minutes with the handle of a 2 pound hammer.The front of the saddle underneath on its frame is a tension adjusting nut. I slackened it a little and rode the bike for 2-3 days before readjusting. I had that first B17 saddle a good 10-12 years and many thousands of miles before it wore out, it was like having an arm chair on a bike.
I am going back to cycling after a long break and I plan to leave my B17 on my touring bike and buy a new one for the hybrid type I'm buying.
A Tip! Carry a plastic bag under the saddle if you have to leave your bike out in the rain, even if you have it oiled.

B17 -Breaking it in
I was interested to read a review which said it takes 300 miles or so to break in a Brooks saddle.Having done only 100 miles or so on my B17 it still feels like a slab of concrete!
But here's hoping that after another 200 miles os so it will feel a bit more comfortable.
